Hong Kong Rugby Union Announces Launch Of Its NFT Marketplace

Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU), the governing body for rugby union in Hong Kong, has announced the launch of its nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace. Powered by NuArca Labs, the digital collectibles platform aims to connect rugby fans to the games.

It has been reported that the platform will help the organization to give more to its fans, enabling them to own a part of the action. In fact, fans attending the upcoming tournament can take part in a treasure hunt to unlock digital collectibles.

However, to celebrate its NFT marketplace launch, Hong Kong Rugby Union is dropping free digital collectibles featuring its flying red dragon mascot, Wai Bei. Interestingly, the mascot “went missing” during the COVID lockdown, eventually making its way into the metaverse. Every fan who logs into the new platform until 3 November will receive a free NFT featuring Wai Bei.

The report said that fans attending the Hong Kong 7s tournament can participate in a “Where’s Wai Bei?” treasure hunt. Essentially, they have to search for 5 QR codes hidden throughout the stadium. Each of the codes will unlock more free Wai Bei collectibles. What’s more, those who find all five will be entered to win a VIP tournament experience.

Thus, Bryan Rennie, the General Manager of Hong Kong Sevens, said:

“These first free collectibles and the “Where’s Wai Bei?” game are designed to playfully engage with our fans in novel ways and introduce them to the exciting and innovative digital experiences we’re planning. Rugby fans are some of the most enthusiastic on the planet…and we aim to harness and reciprocate that energy in web3 community channels.”
